Developmental Editing

Needs vary for each project, but this is a “big-picture” review and edit of your manuscript. You may expect strong emphasis on elements such as: plotting, “voice,” character development, structure, pacing, dialog, point-of-view, and backstory. You will receive notes and “spot edits” within your manuscript to guide you in your revisions, and brainstorming help is provided upon request. Suggestions will be offered to improve plot and character arcs, organization, and style. We’ll also help you define your target market. Includes an initial critique, email communication, a review of 1 revision, and a 30-minute follow-up phone appointment, if desired. Additional revision stages and phone appointments are billed at $50.00 per hour. Full line and copyediting are not included.

Line and Copyediting

A line-by-line edit of your manuscript, with suggestions to improve clarity, grammar, style, general flow, and transitions. We’ll also address repetitive words, phrases, and ideas, and inconsistencies in staging and characterizations. This editing level generally includes fact-check queries and suggested deletions/rearrangement of scenes, paragraphs, and/or sentences. Includes email consultation and a final review of your returned “clean” manuscript for spelling, typos, grammar, and general flow.

A targeted, basic review of your manuscript to address grammar, spelling, and typos in preparation for agent/publisher submission or indie publication.

Full-Service Package

Includes an initial critique, 2 rounds of developmental editing (additional reviews, if needed, are billed at $50.00 per hour), 1 line edit, 1 revision review, and a final copyedit/proof of your manuscript. For authors who plan to publish traditionally, we can walk you through the process. Full-service authors enjoy unlimited emails and may book additional phone appointments, if desired. We can also refer website and promotional designers, publicists, marketing consultants, and other specialists.
